1. Welcome — Please Read This
Hey there. These are the rules for using Kintsugi Utils (we'll call it "the app" from here on). When you open or use the app, you're agreeing to everything below. If something doesn't sit right with you, no hard feelings — just don't use the app. We might tweak these terms over time, and if you keep using the app after we update them, that counts as saying "yeah, that's fine."
2. What Kintsugi Utils Actually Is
Kintsugi Utils is a personal toolbox — calculators for health and finance, a task list, habit tracker, focus timer, and an AI-assisted diary. Think of it as a Swiss army knife for everyday life. None of it is professional advice. The BMI calculator isn't a doctor, the tax calculator isn't an accountant, and the diary isn't a therapist. If you need real expertise, please talk to someone qualified.
3. How Ads Work Here
The app is free to use. On the web version, we show ads through Google AdSense — Google's advertising platform for websites. This helps us keep Kintsugi Utils free for everyone. You're in control: head to Settings → Privacy & Consent to adjust your ad preferences. If you're in the EU or UK, we won't serve you personalised ads unless you explicitly opt in. Google, not us, controls the data it collects for advertising — we don't control what ads they show, so we can't take responsibility for their content. Full details are in our Privacy Policy.
4. What You Can and Can't Do
You're welcome to use Kintsugi Utils for your own personal, everyday stuff. What we ask is that you don't: try to reverse-engineer or rip out the source code, use the app for anything illegal, try to break or bypass the ad system or security features, upload anything malicious, pretend to be someone you're not, or set loose bots and scripts on the app. Anything you create inside the app — diary entries, tasks, habits — is yours, and any decisions you make based on the calculators are on you.
5. Your Stuff Stays Yours
Everything you write in Kintsugi Utils — diary entries, tasks, habits, notes — belongs to you. By default, it lives locally on your device in your browser's storage and doesn't get sent anywhere. We don't read it, review it, or use it for anything beyond showing it to you. If you want a backup, use the export tool in Settings. We can't recover your data if you lose it, so please export anything important.
6. No Warranties — Here's the Honest Version
We built Kintsugi Utils with care, but we can't promise it'll be perfect, bug-free, or available 24/7. The app comes "as is" and "as available." That means we don't guarantee it'll meet all your needs, that it'll never glitch, or that ads will always show up correctly. To the fullest extent the law allows, we're not liable for any losses tied to your use of the app — whether that's direct, indirect, accidental, or consequential.
7. If Something Goes Wrong
In the unlikely event something goes sideways, our liability is capped at $10 USD. Some places don't allow this kind of limit, so it may not apply to you depending on where you live.
8. Who Owns the App
The app itself — the code, the design, the name "Kintsugi Utils," the logo, the animations, all of it — is ours (or licensed to us) and protected by copyright and trademark law. Please don't copy, distribute, or make knockoffs of it without asking us first. Your content (diary entries, tasks, etc.) remains yours — you just give us permission to store and process it so the app can work for you.
9. The Other Companies in the Picture
A few external services help power Kintsugi Utils: • Google AdMob / AdSense — serves the ads (see section 3) • AI language models — power the Diary's AI-assisted writing feature • Base44 — hosts the app and runs the backend Each of these has their own terms and privacy policies. We're not responsible for how they operate, and their availability isn't something we control.
10. Who This App Is For
Kintsugi Utils is built for people 13 and older (16+ in EU countries where that's the threshold). We check your age the first time you open the app. We don't knowingly collect data from anyone younger. If you're a parent or guardian and think your child has given us information, reach out at kintsugiutils@gmail.com and we'll delete it right away. Google's ads are generally family-safe, but we can't guarantee every single ad a third party serves.
11. Your Privacy
Privacy is a big deal to us. The details of what we collect, why, and what you can do about it are in our Privacy Policy and Data Processing Agreement — they're part of this document by reference. We follow the GDPR (for EU/UK users) and the PDPO (for Hong Kong users), along with other applicable privacy laws.
12. Ending Things
You can stop using the app whenever you want — no notice needed. We can also suspend or cut off access if someone breaks these terms or causes problems. Want to wipe your local data? Settings → Data has you covered anytime.
13. The Legal Stuff — Jurisdiction
These terms are governed by the laws of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. If a dispute comes up, we'd rather talk it out first — good faith negotiation for 30 days. If that doesn't resolve things, the courts of Hong Kong have jurisdiction. If you're in the EU, nothing here overrides your statutory consumer rights.
14. We'll Update These Sometimes
We'll revise these terms when the app changes or laws shift. The "Last Updated" date at the top will always reflect the latest version. For big changes, we'll try to give you a heads-up in the app. Keep using Kintsugi Utils after an update, and that means you're okay with the new terms.
