Set a goal and track your progress
About the GPA Calculator
What is this?
A Grade Point Average (GPA) condenses your academic performance into a single number on a standardised scale, most commonly 0.0 to 4.0. It is used by schools, universities, and employers to compare students and track progress over time. Understanding how your GPA is calculated helps you make informed decisions about course loads, study priorities, and academic goals.
How it is calculated
GPA is calculated by multiplying each course's grade points (A = 4.0, B = 3.0, C = 2.0, D = 1.0, F = 0.0) by its credit hours, summing these values, and dividing by the total credit hours. For example, an A (4.0) in a 3-credit course and a B (3.0) in a 4-credit course gives (4.0×3 + 3.0×4) ÷ 7 = 3.43. Some schools use weighted GPAs that give extra points for honours or AP courses.

Frequently asked questions
What is a good GPA?
On a 4.0 scale, a GPA of 3.0 (B average) is generally considered solid, 3.5 is strong, and 3.7+ is excellent. Competitive universities and graduate programmes often look for 3.5 or higher.
Does GPA matter after graduation?
GPA matters most for graduate school applications and your first job after graduation. After a few years of work experience, employers typically weigh skills and experience more heavily.
How can I raise my GPA quickly?
Focus on high-credit courses where improvement is possible, retake classes where you scored poorly if your school allows grade replacement, and prioritise consistent study habits over cramming.
